At SAMK's gaming and experience laboratory Peliselli, 22-year-old Daniel Lindeman moves from a wheelchair to an Exerium gaming chair and gets VR glasses for his eyes. Soon he's back on his motorbike, carrying his bike from corner to corner. The young man has a satisfied smile on his face.

– The feeling of getting back on the bike is absolutely amazing. It makes a huge difference that technology makes this possible for me, he says gratefully.
Daniel was involved in a motorcycle accident a few years ago. For the first year, Daniel's father took a big role in his son's rehabilitation. After that, Daniel moved to the Rinnekodit Saarni housing unit in Karjaranta. He is highly motivated to rehabilitate himself together with professionals.
– Daniel's positive attitude towards life could be an example for everyone, says his instructor Janika Nieminen.
Dreams keep you going
Rinnekodit Oy was involved in a student project of the Satakunta University of Applied Sciences, where they produced experiential VR material for customers. The material can be almost anything from a walk in the woods to a concert and a motorbike ride. The VR glasses were tested by residents and staff of the housing unit, and were given feedback on their use and content.
– Caring for people's well-being is so much more than ensuring their survival. It is unreasonable to place the responsibility for wellbeing solely on social service providers, there is plenty of work for others to do. Technology and the creative industries can also be used to develop versatile solutions to support a meaningful life and functional everyday life, says Sari Merilampi, a leading researcher in well-being technology.
After a ride on his motorbike, Daniel relaxes in Peliselli's sensory-friendly relaxation corner and is embraced by a Somnox sleep robot, whose calm breathing is soothing.
- It felt like someone was in my lap, breathing, just like a little baby, Daniel says after a moment of relaxation.
You can see Daniel in a video presented at the Hyvinvointiteknologiamessut on 1.11. and meet him face to face at Rinnekodit Oy's point in SAMK's Agora hall.
