A product or service should be tested several times on a selected target group at different stages of the product development process. When designing a product or service for older people, it is necessary to take into account the specific characteristics of the target group. These specific characteristics must be taken into account while designing the final product, but also during the testing phase. This will ensure a safe user experience and an effectiveness of the product or service.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.roboai.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Tutkitaan_testbed_muokattu-1.jpg\" alt=\"Three seniors experimenting with technology.\" itemprop=\"image\" height=\"918\" width=\"1400\" title=\"Tutkitaan Testbed Muokattu\" onerror=\"this.style.display='none'\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 1400px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 1400\/918;\" \/>\n\t<p>The aim of the IKI - From ageing to Innovation -project, funded by the European Union (Satakuntaliitto) and the City of Pori, was to develop support services and operating models that both technology companies and providers of social and health services can use in the product development and implementation of technologies for older people. The aim was to create a GeroTestbed model.<\/p>\n<p>The development of the Gerotestbed model started with a mapping of the current state of services for older people. More than twenty professionals working in the field were interviewed to describe the current situation. The interviews provided a picture of the key challenges and technology gaps in the service system. During the IKI-project, these challenges were tackled in a series of workshops, events and technology trials with companies, social and health service providers, organisations and older people and their families. The challenges were addressed by identifying the specificities that need to be taken into account when designing and developing services or products for older people.<\/p>\n<p>The GeroTestbed-model resulting from the IKI-project provides testing and research services for technology development, digital services and social innovation to foster sustainable and responsible innovation and promote the well-being of older people. The GeroTestbed-model provides tools for wellbeing and health technology companies to design user-centred and safe products and services for older people. For service providers in the social and health care sector, it provides support for the use of technology as part of service delivery.
